A second opinion before you commit real money.
Software consulting for Omaha-area businesses: scoping a big project into pieces you can actually finish, deciding whether it is worth building at all, working out which problems to fix first, and a second opinion on decisions that are expensive to undo — a vendor quote included.
What we advise on
Sometimes you don’t need code written — you need someone who has made these decisions before to tell you honestly what they’d do. Advice is cheap compared to the mistakes it prevents, and we’d rather talk you out of a bad project than get paid to build one.
- Scoping — breaking a large project into pieces you can actually finish
- Feasibility — whether the thing you have in mind can actually be built
- Build vs. buy — whether it is worth building at all, or already sold in a box
- Vendor and quote review — a straight read on what you’re being sold
- Priorities — which problems to fix first, and which are quietly costing you
- Process review — finding the manual steps and broken handoffs worth fixing
What an advisory engagement looks like
Short, direct, and finished — most advisory work is measured in days, not months.
Tell us the decision
A project, a quote, a process, a mess — whatever you’re trying to decide, that’s the scope.
We do the looking
Reading the proposal, the code, or how the work actually gets done — whatever the decision needs.
You get it straight
What we’d do in your position, and why — including when the answer is ‘don’t’.
Before you sign anything
The expensive mistakes happen before anyone writes code.
Signing a quote nobody read closely. Building something that’s already sold in a box. Fixing the loudest problem instead of the one quietly costing the most. Each of those is cheap to catch early and expensive to unwind later.
An hour or two of looking — at the proposal, the plan, or how the work actually gets done — is the cheapest insurance on the whole project. You get our read in plain English, with the reasons — including when the reason is that the quote is fair and you should sign it.
Straight answers
Can you review a proposal another firm gave us?
Yes. You’ll get a plain-English read: what’s fair, what’s padded, what’s missing, and what questions to ask before signing.
Can you tell us whether what we want is even possible?
Yes, and it is usually the cheapest hour you’ll spend on it. You’ll get a read on what building it would actually take, what already exists that does most of the job, and when the honest answer is that it costs more than the problem does.
Will you just tell us to hire you to build it?
No. Advisory work is priced to stand on its own, and ‘don’t build this’ is a perfectly good outcome. We take on a small number of build clients on purpose; the advice is honest because it has to be.
What does consulting cost?
The first conversation costs nothing — we’d rather work out together whether there’s anything here worth doing. Past that, we bill by the hour, and most advisory work is short — you’ll have a real sense of the cost before we start.
